Per an announcement by the St. Louis Cardinals this morning, prior to this afternoon's final game against the Chicago Cubs, pitcher Michael Wacha has been activated from the 15-Day DL.
Michael Wacha, starter for the Cardinals, last appearance was August 8 and was placed on the DL August 9. After medical exam and tests, the diagnosis was a return of the scapular-stress-injury (shoulder inflammation) which took him out for the 2014 season.
From previous statements made, Wacha will be assigned to the bullpen due to restraints on pitch count. Cardinals Rookie Luke Weaver, who was called up from Memphis Triple-A to replace Wacha in the rotation. Weaver will continue his role as starter. Wacha has been on rehab assignment with limited throwing (PC) and his shoulder is responding well. However, as a precaution, the Cardinals are going to hold him from "long inning duty" due to the nature of his injury.
It is surmised, also, pitcher Trevor Rosenthal will soon be ready to return from his DL stint (shoulder/forearm injury). He threw to live hitters this week and continues his rehab.
